7 Signs a Deceased Loved One Is Trying to Reach You
Our loved ones on the other side often send us signs, but we don't always recognise them. Here are the most common ways spirits try to get your attention.
After someone we love passes, we often long for a sign that they're still with us. The truth is, spirits send signs all the time, we just don't always know what to look for.
Over the thousands of mediumship readings I've done, certain patterns come up again and again. Your loved ones are more present than you realise. Here are seven of the most common signs they use to reach you.
1. You Smell Their Scent Out of Nowhere
One of the most unmistakable signs. You're going about your day and suddenly catch a whiff of your grandmother's perfume, your father's aftershave, or your mother's cooking, with no physical source. This isn't your imagination. Spirits often use scent because it bypasses the logical mind and hits you right in the heart. If it makes you think of them, that's the point.
2. Electrical Interference
Lights flickering, the TV changing channels, your phone behaving strangely, a song suddenly playing on the radio that was "your song." Spirit is energy, and manipulating electrical currents is one of the easiest ways for them to get your attention. Pay particular attention when it happens at meaningful moments, an anniversary, a birthday, or when you've just been thinking about them.
3. Recurring Numbers
Seeing the same number sequence repeatedly, on clocks, receipts, number plates, phone numbers. Common ones include 11:11, their birthday, or the date they passed. When the same number keeps appearing in ways that feel too frequent to be coincidence, it's worth paying attention. Many of my clients report this as one of the first signs they notice after a loss.
4. Dreams That Feel Different
Not every dream about a loved one is a visitation, but visitation dreams have a distinct quality. They feel vivid, peaceful, and real in a way ordinary dreams don't. You wake up feeling like you genuinely spent time with that person. In these dreams, your loved one often looks healthy and happy, and the emotional tone is one of reassurance rather than distress.
5. Animals Behaving Unusually
A robin that sits on your windowsill every morning. A butterfly that lands on your hand. A cat staring intently at an empty corner of the room. Animals are far more sensitive to spiritual energy than we are. When an animal behaves in a way that feels deliberate or unusual, especially if it involves a creature your loved one was connected to, it's worth considering as a sign.
6. Finding Objects in Unexpected Places
Coins appearing in strange places, feathers on your path, finding a piece of their jewellery you thought was lost. Spirits can influence the physical world in subtle ways, and placing meaningful objects where you'll find them is a classic method. The key is the feeling it gives you, if finding that object makes you immediately think of your person, trust that instinct.
7. A Sudden Feeling of Presence
Perhaps the most common sign of all: the unmistakable feeling that someone is in the room with you. A warmth, a pressure change, goosebumps, or simply a deep knowing that you're not alone. This tends to happen in quiet moments, when you're falling asleep, meditating, or sitting still. Your logical mind might try to dismiss it, but your soul knows the difference between imagination and genuine presence.
What to Do When You Notice Signs
The most important thing is to acknowledge them. Say it out loud or in your mind: "I see you. I know you're here. Thank you." Spirits put effort into sending signs, and your acknowledgment strengthens the connection.
If you'd like a deeper connection with a loved one who has passed, a mediumship reading can open that channel more fully. I act as a bridge between you and your person, bringing through specific messages, memories, and guidance that go beyond signs.
