Clairvoyant vs Psychic: What Is the Difference?

Clairvoyance is one sense; psychic is the whole set. Here is the difference, what clairaudience and clairsentience add, and why the label matters less than the reading.

A clairvoyant is someone who claims to perceive things beyond ordinary sight, the word meaning "clear seeing". A psychic is the broader term for anyone who claims perception beyond the ordinary senses, by whatever route. In practice the words are used loosely, and the label on a listing tells you less than the format, the price and the limits stated before you pay.

Those are the broad meanings reflected in Merriam-Webster's entries for clairvoyant and psychic. In the trade, clairvoyance is one of several "clairs": clairvoyance for images, clairaudience for sounds or words, clairsentience for feelings, claircognizance for sudden knowing.

The title alone does not prove accuracy, training or honesty. Before choosing either, look at the named reader, the exact format, what is included, the delivery time and what the reader says they cannot do.

Clairvoyant vs Psychic at a glance

What people usually mean by clairvoyant

People search for a clairvoyant when they want someone who sees: a face, a place, a scene, a symbol. Readers who describe themselves this way usually say their impressions come as pictures, and they translate those pictures into an answer.

Seeing an image is not the same as knowing what it means. A clairvoyant who shows you a door still has to tell you whether it is opening or closing, and that part is interpretation.

What people usually mean by psychic

People search for a psychic when they want an answer and do not much mind how it arrives. Most readers work through more than one sense, and the mix shifts with the question. I receive some things as images, some as a feeling in the body, and some as a plain sentence I did not compose.

The label psychic covers all of that. It says nothing about how good the reader is, how honest the listing is, or what the reading will actually contain.

Is a clairvoyant more accurate than a psychic?

No. Clairvoyance describes how a reader says their information arrives, not how reliable it is. A reader who sees vivid pictures can misread them. A reader who mostly feels things can be precise. The word tells you about the method the reader prefers, and nothing about the result.

If anything, be a little careful with listings that lean hard on the word clairvoyant, because it sounds more specialised than it is. Every psychic who works with images is clairvoyant by definition.

How to choose between them

Do not choose by the word. Choose by the reading: what question it answers, what you have to send, how long it takes, what it costs, and what the reader says they cannot do. A clairvoyant and a psychic offering the same written reading for the same price are offering the same thing. The one with clearer limits and real reviews is the better choice.

How this works on this site

I use the word psychic for my written readings, which are US$22 for up to three related questions by email within 48 hours, and I work through images, feelings and words together. The online psychic reading guide explains exactly what you receive. Whichever you choose, read the listing's scope and the customer reviews first, and keep the question about what you can see and decide rather than about proving what another person is doing.
