The Seven of Pentacles as Advice: Be Patient, and Assess

Written by Chaya the Medium.

The Seven of Pentacles as advice asks you to lean on the hoe and look. Here is how, and what the reversal says.

If you want the short answer, the Seven of Pentacles as advice says: be patient, and assess honestly. Give the investment time, and check that it is really growing.

What the Seven of Pentacles advises upright

Tina Gong's the Seven of Pentacles guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with long-term view, perseverance, investment and sustainable results. In an advice position I read those meanings as an instruction: the attitude or action the card is asking of you, rather than a description of what will happen. The Minor Arcana overview at Biddy Tarot is a useful second reference.

Upright, the Seven of Pentacles advises a long view: review progress, adjust, and keep tending what is working.

What the Seven of Pentacles is not asking you to do

The Seven is not asking you to tend something that has never grown.

The Seven of Pentacles reversed as advice

Reversed, the Seven of Pentacles as advice says either stop pulling at it early, or admit it is not growing. A reversed card in an advice position is usually pointing at the habit that is getting in your way, not at a punishment.

The Seven of Pentacles as advice in love

In love, the Seven of Pentacles advises patience with a slow relationship, and honesty about whether it is growing.

The Seven of Pentacles as advice for work and money

For work and money, it advises reviewing long-term investments and projects. Advice from a card is reflection. For decisions with legal, medical or financial weight, take it to someone qualified as well.

One step to take this week

Write down the evidence that your project is growing. If there is none, decide what to change.

For comparison, the Eight of Pentacles as advice and the Empress as advice ask different things of you. The the Seven of Pentacles card meaning page covers the card in full, and the Seven of Pentacles as a yes or no, the Seven of Pentacles as feelings and the Seven of Pentacles as timing cover the other questions people most often ask of it.
