The Seven of Wands as Advice: Hold Your Ground

Written by Chaya the Medium.

The Seven of Wands as advice asks you to stay on the hill. Here is how, and what the reversal says about the fight.

If you want the short answer, the Seven of Wands as advice says: hold your ground. Your position is worth defending; do not give way.

What the Seven of Wands advises upright

Tina Gong's the Seven of Wands guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with perseverance, defending a position, challenge and standing your ground. In an advice position I read those meanings as an instruction: the attitude or action the card is asking of you, rather than a description of what will happen. The Minor Arcana overview at Biddy Tarot is a useful second reference.

Upright, the Seven of Wands advises conviction: state your boundary, defend your price, keep your position.

What the Seven of Wands is not asking you to do

The Seven is not asking you to fight for something you no longer want.

The Seven of Wands reversed as advice

Reversed, the Seven of Wands as advice says decide whether this hill is still worth it. A reversed card in an advice position is usually pointing at the habit that is getting in your way, not at a punishment.

The Seven of Wands as advice in love

In love, the Seven of Wands advises standing by your needs.

The Seven of Wands as advice for work and money

For work and money, it advises defending your value against pressure. Advice from a card is reflection. For decisions with legal, medical or financial weight, take it to someone qualified as well.

One step to take this week

Name the position you are defending and confirm to yourself that you still want it.

For comparison, the Five of Wands as advice and the Nine of Wands as advice ask different things of you. The the Seven of Wands card meaning page covers the card in full, and the Seven of Wands as a yes or no, the Seven of Wands as feelings and the Seven of Wands as timing cover the other questions people most often ask of it.
