The Six of Cups as an Outcome: The Past Returns

Written by Chaya the Medium.

The Six of Cups as an outcome brings the past back. Here is what it means in love, at work and reversed.

The Six of Cups as an outcome is the past returning. The situation is heading toward reunion, nostalgia or a sweetness you remember.

What the Six of Cups means as an outcome upright

Tina Gong's the Six of Cups guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with revisiting the past, childhood memories, innocence and joy. In the outcome position I read those meanings as the likely direction of the situation if things carry on as they are now. An outcome card is not a fixed sentence. It shows where the current road leads, and roads can be changed. The Minor Arcana overview at Biddy Tarot is a useful second reference.

Upright, the Six of Cups shows the outcome connected to memory. An old friend returns, a familiar place calls you back, or you recover a simple joy.

The Six of Cups reversed as an outcome

Reversed, the Six of Cups as an outcome warns of living in the past. Nostalgia can stop you moving forward.

The Six of Cups as a love outcome

As a love outcome, the Six of Cups often points to an ex or an old flame returning, or to a gentle, innocent connection.

The Six of Cups as an outcome for work and money

For work and money, the Six of Cups as an outcome favours returning to old skills or contacts. A card can describe a direction; for decisions with legal, medical or financial weight, take advice from someone qualified as well.

What helps this outcome along

Kindness helps this outcome. Honour the past without staying in it.

For comparison, the Five of Cups as an outcome and the Seven of Cups as an outcome point somewhere different. The the Six of Cups card meaning page covers the card in full, and the Six of Cups as advice, the Six of Cups as feelings and the Six of Cups as a yes or no cover the other questions people most often ask of it.
