The Chariot as Intentions: To Pursue You and Win

The Chariot as intentions is a plan to drive straight at the goal, and you are the goal. Here is what I would read in it, upright and reversed.

If you want the short answer, I would read the Chariot as intentions that are determined and controlled. In an intentions position the card suggests the person has decided to pursue you, or something involving you, and means to succeed through focus and will. The intention is strong. It is also holding two opposing pulls together, and the card is honest that the holding takes effort.

This is the armoured figure between the two sphinxes with no reins. They intend to arrive. The sphinxes have not agreed on the direction.

The Chariot upright as intentions

Tina Gong's the Chariot guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with control, willpower, victory and determination. When the card lands in a position that asks what someone intends toward you, I read those meanings as the shape of their plan rather than as a promise about what they will do. Feelings and intentions are different questions; the Chariot as feelings covers the first, and this page covers the second. The Major Arcana overview at Biddy Tarot is a useful second reference.

Upright, I read the Chariot as a person who intends to win: to overcome the obstacle between you, to move the situation forward, to get where they have decided to go. They are not drifting toward you. They are driving, and the driving is disciplined.

What I would not read into it is ease or tenderness in the plan. The Chariot intends the goal. Whether the goal is you as a person or you as a destination is the thing to check.

What the card does not tell you

The card does not confirm the person's determination is about you rather than about winning, that the two pulls will resolve in your favour, or that the drive is matched by care. No card lets a reader see another person's plans. What a card can do is describe the kind of intention that fits the person's behaviour, and give you something to check against what they actually do.

The Chariot reversed as intentions

Reversed, the Chariot as intentions describes a drive gone wrong: a plan to pursue that has become pressure, an intention to win at any cost, or a person whose contradictions have won and whose intentions toward you change direction weekly. It can also describe someone who intends a great deal and has lost the road.

In your own question, ask whether the person seems to be fighting themselves over you, or whether their pursuit has become something you have to brace against. A reversed card as intentions is a prompt to compare what is said with what is done, not a diagnosis of bad faith.

The Chariot as an ex's intentions

Asked about an ex, the Chariot as intentions can suggest they are still pulling toward you and still pulling away, and intend to resolve it by force of will. That is tiring, and tired people make decisions. The card does not say which way the decision goes. My guide to asking a psychic whether an ex will come back explains what a reading can and cannot say about that question.

The Chariot as a new person's intentions

For someone new, this card describes determined, focused intent from someone used to getting where they are going. Flattering. Notice whether they intend the destination or the driving, because the Chariot sometimes loves the road more than the city.

What their intentions look like in action

Look for focused effort: steady pursuit, obstacles overcome to see you, no drifting. A Chariot intention is directional. If the direction keeps changing, the sphinxes have won.

What to record before drawing again

Keep three short notes: the question you asked, the two pulls you think the person is holding, and what you would need to see to trust the drive is toward you. The third note is your reins.

For comparison, the Knight of Swords as intentions and Strength as intentions describe different intentions. The the Chariot card meaning page covers the card in full, and the Chariot as a person and the Chariot as a yes or no cover the other questions people most often ask of it.
