The Ace of Cups as Feelings: Fresh, Open and Unspoken
The Ace of Cups is the overflowing cup held out from a cloud. Here is what I would read when it appears as someone's feelings, and why the overflow is the point.
If you want the short answer, I would read the Ace of Cups as feelings that are new, generous and rising. In a feelings position the card suggests the person feels an opening of the heart toward you that is bigger than anything they have said. It does not tell you the words are coming. Aces are potential, and this one is a cup that has not been drunk from yet.
This is one of the warmest feelings cards in the deck, and one of the least specific. What is overflowing is affection. Where it goes is still open.
The Ace of Cups upright as feelings
Tina Gong's the Ace of Cups guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with new feelings, love, compassion and emotional beginnings. When the card lands in a position that asks how someone feels about you, I read those meanings as the shape of the feeling rather than as a verdict on the person.
Upright, I read the Ace of Cups as a person whose feeling for you is fresh and genuine, possibly surprising to them, and not yet shaped into intention. They feel more than they have decided. That is a good place for a feeling to be, and a frustrating place to be on the receiving end of.
What I would not read into it is a plan. The Ace is the cup being offered. Whether a hand reaches for it is the next card, and the next month.
What the card does not tell you
The card does not confirm that the person has recognised what they feel, that they will act on it, or that the feeling is exclusive to you. No card lets a reader check a real person's private feelings. What a card can do is give you an honest picture of the feeling you are hoping for or fearing, and a prompt to compare it with how the person actually behaves.
The Ace of Cups reversed as feelings
Reversed, the Ace of Cups is often read as emotional loss, blocked feeling, or a heart that has closed. As feelings, I read the reversal as affection that is there and cannot flow: a person who feels something for you and has shut the cup, from fear, from an old wound, or from a situation that makes feeling unsafe.
In your own question, ask which fits. Does the person seem to pull back exactly when things warm up? Or is there something in their life that makes an open heart impractical right now? A reversed card is a prompt to notice which of those is true from what you can see, not a diagnosis of the other person.
The Ace of Cups as an ex's feelings
Asked about an ex, the Ace of Cups can suggest a renewed softness, feeling rising again where it had gone flat. I would not read it as a reunion. Feeling can rise toward you and still be left in the cup; the Ace says nothing about what they do with it. My guide to asking a psychic whether an ex will come back explains what a reading can and cannot say about that question.
The Ace of Cups as a new person's feelings
For someone new, this is a very hopeful card: the person feels an openness toward you that is bigger than a passing interest. The thing to do with it is nothing clever. Be warm, be present and let the cup fill.
What to watch for in their behaviour
Look for generosity without an agenda: they give you time, attention and small kindnesses before anything has been defined. An Ace of Cups feeling shows up as warmth that seems to have nowhere particular to go yet. That is exactly what it is.
What to record before drawing again
Keep three short notes: the question you asked, the warmth you have actually received, and whether you have been warm back. The third note decides whether the cup overflows or sits. Another draw will mostly reflect the same offered cup.
For comparison, the Two of Cups as feelings and the Page of Cups as feelings describe different feelings.
