Judgement Yes or No: Yes, Through an Honest Decision
Judgement is a yes that arrives with a trumpet. Here is how I read it for yes or no questions, upright and reversed, and why the reversal is a no about avoidance.
If you want the short answer, Judgement is a yes. In a yes or no draw the upright card says a clear decision, an honest review or a second chance can move this onward. It is a yes to answering the call, and it assumes you are willing to look at the past honestly on the way.
This is a card of yes as awakening. The figures are rising from the graves. Nobody is pretending they were not in them.
Is Judgement a yes or a no?
Upright, I read Judgement as a yes. Reversed, I read it as a no. Those are the same directions my free yes or no tarot draw uses, so if you drew the card there, this page explains the answer it gave you.
Tina Gong's Judgement guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with reflection, reckoning, awakening and a calling. Brigit Esselmont's yes or no tarot overview at Biddy Tarot notes that readers assign yes and no values differently, which is true, and it is why I state mine rather than pretend there is one correct table.
Why the upright card reads this way
I read Judgement as yes because the card is about rising to a summons: the trumpet, the open graves, the lifted arms. When a question is about whether to act on a realisation, take a second chance or make a decision that has been coming for a while, Judgement says yes, now.
The yes includes the reckoning. Judgement does not give a yes to skipping the review. It gives a yes to the decision made after the review, which is why the second chance it offers tends to hold.
Judgement reversed as yes or no
Reversed, I read Judgement as a no. The reversal describes avoidance or harsh self-judgment preventing a sound decision: the call heard and not answered, or a person so busy condemning themselves that they cannot rise.
If you drew Judgement reversed, ask which of those fits. If you are avoiding, the no is to continuing to avoid. If you are judging yourself too harshly, the no is to the verdict you have already passed on yourself, and the card is asking you to appeal it.
Judgement yes or no in a love question
In a love question, Judgement is a yes to the honest conversation, the decision that has been put off, and the second chance that is earned by facing what went wrong. It is one of the few cards I would read as a real possibility of reconciliation, with the condition that both people have done the reckoning. Reversed, it is a no to a second chance that skips the honesty.
Judgement yes or no for work and money
For work and money, Judgement is a yes to the decision you have been circling: the change, the application, the call you know you should answer. It is also a yes to reviewing the past year honestly before planning the next. Reversed, it is a no to drifting, and a no to letting a past failure decide the future.
When a yes or no draw is the wrong tool
Judgement answers questions about decisions and reckonings. It is a poor card for questions that want a passive outcome, because it will give a yes that requires you to rise. A single card answers a single, well-formed question. If the question is really three questions, or is about another person's choices, a yes or no draw will give you a confident answer to the wrong thing. My guide to a one question psychic reading explains how I handle questions that need more than one card.
What to record before drawing again
Keep three short notes: the exact question you asked, the realisation or call you have been sitting on, and the honest review of the past that the decision needs. The third note is the condition on the yes.
For comparison, the Wheel of Fortune yes or no and the World yes or no answer differently. The Judgement card meaning page covers the card in full, and Judgement as timing and Judgement as feelings cover the two other questions people most often ask of it.
