The Wheel of Fortune Yes or No: Yes, Things Are Turning

The Wheel of Fortune is a yes carried by circumstance. Here is how I read it for yes or no questions, upright and reversed, and why the reversal is about a pattern repeating.

If you want the short answer, the Wheel of Fortune is a yes. In a yes or no draw the upright card says circumstances are turning and a new opening may appear. It is a yes that comes from outside you rather than from your effort, which makes it welcome and makes it something you cannot steer.

This is a card of yes as a turn of luck. The wheel is moving. Where it stops is not written on it.

Is the Wheel of Fortune a yes or a no?

Upright, I read the Wheel of Fortune as a yes. Reversed, I read it as unclear, neither a clean yes nor a clean no. Those are the same directions my free yes or no tarot draw uses, so if you drew the card there, this page explains the answer it gave you.

Tina Gong's the Wheel of Fortune guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with cycles, destiny, turning points and change. Brigit Esselmont's yes or no tarot overview at Biddy Tarot notes that readers assign yes and no values differently, which is true, and it is why I state mine rather than pretend there is one correct table.

Why the upright card reads this way

I read the Wheel as yes because the card is about movement after stasis: the figures rising on the rim, the sphinx at the top, the sense of a cycle advancing. When a question has been stuck, the Wheel says the stuckness is ending and a chance is coming round.

The yes is about an opening, not an outcome. The Wheel brings the chance to your side of the circle. Taking it is a different card, and the Wheel turns on whether you do or not.

The Wheel of Fortune reversed as yes or no

Reversed, I read the Wheel of Fortune as unclear. The reversal describes unsettled timing and a pattern that may repeat without a different choice: the same situation coming round again because nothing was done differently last time.

If you drew the Wheel reversed, ask what you did the last time this came round. The card is not giving a no. It is saying the answer depends on whether this turn is met differently from the last one.

The Wheel of Fortune yes or no in a love question

In a love question, the Wheel is a yes to a change in the situation: a meeting, a shift, a chance that was not there before. It is often drawn about an ex, and there I would be careful: the Wheel can bring someone back round and it can take them round again just as easily. Reversed, it is the card of the on-and-off relationship, and it asks what would be different this time.

The Wheel of Fortune yes or no for work and money

For work and money, the Wheel is a yes to an opportunity arriving, a change of fortune, a door opening that you did not knock on. Reversed, it suggests the same financial pattern is about to repeat, and asks what choice would break the cycle before it does.

When a yes or no draw is the wrong tool

The Wheel answers questions about change and luck. It is a poor card for anything you need to control, because it describes exactly the part of life you cannot. A single card answers a single, well-formed question. If the question is really three questions, or is about another person's choices, a yes or no draw will give you a confident answer to the wrong thing. My guide to a one question psychic reading explains how I handle questions that need more than one card.

What to record before drawing again

Keep three short notes: the exact question you asked, what has changed or is about to change around it, and what you did the last time a chance like this came round. The third note is the reversal's whole lesson and the upright card's whole opportunity.

For comparison, the Tower yes or no and Judgement yes or no answer differently. The the Wheel of Fortune card meaning page covers the card in full, and the Wheel of Fortune as timing and the Wheel of Fortune as feelings cover the two other questions people most often ask of it.
