The Knight of Cups as Feelings: Romantic, Expressive and Not Yet Proven
The Knight of Cups is the card people most hope to see when they ask how someone feels. Here is what I would read in it, and what I would not.
If you want the short answer, I would read the Knight of Cups as feelings that are romantic, open and keen to be shown. In a feelings position the card suggests the person is drawn to you and is in the mood to say so, with gestures, messages, invitations. It does not tell you the feeling is deep yet. Knights are in motion, and this one is riding toward you with a cup held out.
That is a lovely card to draw. It is also a card about the offer, not the follow-through.
The Knight of Cups upright as feelings
Tina Gong's the Knight of Cups guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with romance, charm, imagination and following the heart. When the card lands in a position that asks how someone feels about you, I read those meanings as the shape of the feeling rather than as a verdict on the person.
Upright, I read the Knight of Cups as a person who feels something and wants it known. The feeling is warm and a little idealised: they may be in love with the idea of you as much as with you, and at this stage that is not a fault. It is what early romantic feeling looks like.
What I would not read into it is permanence. The Knight brings the cup. Whether he stays to drink from it is a question for other cards and, more usefully, for time.
What the card does not tell you
The card does not confirm that the person is thinking about you right now, that they will message, or that the feeling will become a relationship. No card lets a reader check a real person's private feelings. What a card can do is give you an honest picture of the feeling you are hoping for or fearing, and a prompt to compare it with how the person actually behaves.
The Knight of Cups reversed as feelings
Reversed, the Knight of Cups is often read as moodiness, unrealistic expectations, or charm without substance. As feelings, I read the reversal as romantic interest that is unreliable: a person who feels a great deal in the moment and little the next morning, or who enjoys the pursuit more than the person.
In your own question, ask which fits. Do their words run far ahead of their actions? Or is the feeling real and simply unsteady, which is different? A reversed card is a prompt to notice which of those is true from what you can see, not a diagnosis of the other person.
The Knight of Cups as an ex's feelings
Asked about an ex, the Knight of Cups can suggest that they still feel the romantic pull and may be inclined to reach out. I would be careful with that. The Knight feels things in waves; a wave of nostalgia is not a decision to return. My guide to asking a psychic whether an ex will come back explains what a reading can and cannot say about that question.
The Knight of Cups as a new person's feelings
For someone new, this is close to the best card for early interest: they like you, they are attracted, and they want to make a gesture. The useful question is what happens after the gesture. If the Knight keeps riding, that tells you more than any card.
What to watch for in their behaviour
Look for offers that are followed through: a plan proposed and kept, a message that asks a real question, interest in your life rather than only in the romance of the moment. A Knight of Cups who shows up is upright. One who sends poems and cancels dinners is reversed.
What to record before drawing again
Keep three short notes: the question you asked, what the person has actually done in the last two weeks, and what you hope the card means. If the second and third notes disagree, trust the second. Another draw will mostly reflect the same hope.
For comparison, the King of Cups as feelings and the Page of Cups as feelings describe different feelings.
