The Empress as Feelings: Abundant, Sensual and Giving
The Empress sits among wheat with a heart-shaped shield. Here is what I would read when she appears as someone's feelings, and why her feeling tends to overflow.
If you want the short answer, I would read the Empress as feelings that are warm, generous and sensual. In a feelings position the card suggests the person feels a rich, embodied affection for you: they want to care for you, enjoy you and be close to you. It does not tell you the feeling is directed at you alone. The Empress is abundant by nature.
This is one of the warmest cards for a feelings question, and it describes a way of loving rather than a decision about whom.
The Empress upright as feelings
Tina Gong's the Empress guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with fertility, femininity, beauty, nature and abundance. When the card lands in a position that asks how someone feels about you, I read those meanings as the shape of the feeling rather than as a verdict on the person.
Upright, I read the Empress as a person whose feeling for you is full and physical: attraction, tenderness, a wish to nourish and be near. There is no coldness in this card anywhere. There is also no urgency; the Empress has time.
What I would not read into it is exclusivity or structure. The Empress feels generously and widely. The shape the feeling takes, whether it becomes a relationship with edges, is a question for the Emperor, not for her.
What the card does not tell you
The card does not confirm commitment, that the person's warmth is special to you rather than their way with everyone, or that sensual interest comes with emotional intent. No card lets a reader check a real person's private feelings. What a card can do is give you an honest picture of the feeling you are hoping for or fearing, and a prompt to compare it with how the person actually behaves.
The Empress reversed as feelings
Reversed, the Empress is often read as dependence, smothering, or creative and emotional block. As feelings, I read the reversal as affection that has become clinging or draining, or as a person whose natural warmth is blocked by something and who seems unusually cool toward you because of it.
In your own question, ask which fits. Does the person's care feel like too much? Or does someone who is usually warm seem shut down, in a way that may have nothing to do with you? A reversed card is a prompt to notice which of those is true from what you can see, not a diagnosis of the other person.
The Empress as an ex's feelings
Asked about an ex, the Empress can suggest that their feeling for you remains warm and even physical. I would be careful. The Empress can hold affection for a former partner comfortably while building a full life elsewhere, and often does. My guide to asking a psychic whether an ex will come back explains what a reading can and cannot say about that question.
The Empress as a new person's feelings
For someone new, this card is lovely: they feel warmth and attraction toward you and are inclined to show it through pleasure, generosity and touch. Enjoy it. Ask about structure later, and ask a different card.
What to watch for in their behaviour
Look for generosity of the body and the table: they feed you, touch you, make things beautiful for you, take pleasure in your company. An Empress feeling is sensory. If the warmth is all words and no presence, the card is not describing what you are seeing.
What to record before drawing again
Keep three short notes: the question you asked, the embodied warmth you have actually received, and what you want the feeling to become. The third note is yours to raise. Another draw will mostly reflect the same figure among the same wheat.
For comparison, the Emperor as feelings and the Ten of Cups as feelings describe different feelings.
