The Emperor as Feelings: Protective, Structured and Slow to Soften
The Emperor sits on a stone throne with rams at every corner. Here is what I would read when he appears as someone's feelings, and why structure is his way of caring.
If you want the short answer, I would read the Emperor as feelings that are protective, serious and held behind structure. In a feelings position the card suggests the person feels responsible for you, wants to provide stability and may show care by taking charge rather than by being tender. It does not tell you there is softness available. The throne is stone.
This is a card of feeling as duty and protection. For some people that is exactly what love looks like. For others it is a wall with a crown on it.
The Emperor upright as feelings
Tina Gong's the Emperor guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with authority, structure, control and fatherhood. When the card lands in a position that asks how someone feels about you, I read those meanings as the shape of the feeling rather than as a verdict on the person.
Upright, I read the Emperor as a person whose regard for you is firm and committed in their own way: they want to look after you, they think in terms of security and plans, and they are not comfortable with emotional display. The feeling is real and it comes in armour.
What I would not read into it is warmth on demand. The Emperor can love deeply and express it as rules. If you need to be held rather than guarded, this card is telling you the person may not know how, yet.
What the card does not tell you
The card does not confirm romantic attraction rather than protectiveness, that the person can soften, or that their need for control leaves room for your independence. No card lets a reader check a real person's private feelings. What a card can do is give you an honest picture of the feeling you are hoping for or fearing, and a prompt to compare it with how the person actually behaves.
The Emperor reversed as feelings
Reversed, the Emperor is often read as domination, rigidity, or an absence of authority where it is needed. As feelings, I read the reversal as protectiveness that has become control, or as a person who cannot provide the structure they value and withdraws rather than admit it.
In your own question, ask which fits. Does the person's care feel like being ruled? Or do they seem to have abdicated, present in name and absent in fact? A reversed card is a prompt to notice which of those is true from what you can see, not a diagnosis of the other person.
The Emperor as an ex's feelings
Asked about an ex, the Emperor can suggest that they still feel responsible for you and may step in if you needed help. That is a form of lasting regard. It is rarely a wish to reopen the relationship, and it is often accompanied by a firm decision not to. My guide to asking a psychic whether an ex will come back explains what a reading can and cannot say about that question.
The Emperor as a new person's feelings
For someone new, this card describes a serious, slightly formal interest from someone who will show feeling by building something stable with you. It is slow to warm and tends to hold. If you need tenderness early, you will need to ask for it in plain terms.
What to watch for in their behaviour
Look for protection and reliability: they handle things, they make you feel safe, they keep their word. An Emperor feeling is structural. If you want to know whether it includes tenderness, watch what happens when you are vulnerable with them, because that is where this card either softens or does not.
What to record before drawing again
Keep three short notes: the question you asked, the ways the person has provided structure or protection, and whether that is the kind of care you want. The third note matters as much as the card. Another draw will mostly reflect the same stone throne.
For comparison, the Empress as feelings and the King of Pentacles as feelings describe different feelings.
