The Hanged Man as an Outcome: A Pause That Changes Things

Written by Chaya the Medium.

The Hanged Man as an outcome is a pause with a purpose. Here is what it means in love, at work and when it is reversed.

The Hanged Man as an outcome is a pause. The situation is heading toward a waiting period, and what comes out of it is a new way of seeing things. It is slow, but it is not wasted.

What the Hanged Man means as an outcome upright

Tina Gong's the Hanged Man guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with pause, surrender, letting go and new perspectives. In the outcome position I read those meanings as the likely direction of the situation if things carry on as they are now. An outcome card is not a fixed sentence. It shows where the current road leads, and roads can be changed. The Major Arcana overview at Biddy Tarot is a useful second reference.

Upright, the Hanged Man shows the outcome on hold while something shifts inside you. You may need to let go of control or accept a delay. The reward is insight that would not have come any other way.

The Hanged Man reversed as an outcome

Reversed, the Hanged Man as an outcome points to stalling or a sacrifice that brings nothing back. If you have been waiting for someone else to move, the reversal says the pause has become avoidance.

The Hanged Man as a love outcome

As a love outcome, the Hanged Man suggests a relationship in limbo for now. It can be a time to see the connection differently. Reversed, it warns against giving more and more in hope of a change that is not coming.

The Hanged Man as an outcome for work and money

For work and money, the Hanged Man as an outcome points to delays, a need to rethink strategy or a change of perspective that opens a better route. A card can describe a direction; for decisions with legal, medical or financial weight, take advice from someone qualified as well.

What helps this outcome along

Letting go helps this outcome. Stop forcing the timing and look at the situation from a completely different angle.

For comparison, the Hermit as an outcome and Death as an outcome point somewhere different. The the Hanged Man card meaning page covers the card in full, and the Hanged Man as advice, the Hanged Man as feelings and the Hanged Man as a yes or no cover the other questions people most often ask of it.
