The Moon as How Someone Sees You: Something They Cannot Make Out

The Moon as how someone sees you means they see a shape in the dark. Here is what the picture includes, upright and reversed, and why it says more about their night than about you.

If you want the short answer, the Moon as how someone sees you means they do not see you clearly: the picture is made of shapes, fears, projections and guesses, lit by moonlight rather than day. It is not a bad picture. It is an unreliable one, and the person may be seeing a wolf where there is a dog, or the other way round.

This is you as the shape on the path between the towers. They see something. They cannot tell what it is, and the howling is theirs.

The Moon upright as how someone sees you

Tina Gong's the Moon guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with illusion, fear, anxiety, the subconscious and intuition. When the card lands in a position that asks how someone sees you, I read those meanings as the image the person holds of you, which is not the same as who you are and not the same as what they feel. the Moon as feelings covers what they feel; the Moon as intentions covers what they plan. This page covers the picture. The Major Arcana overview at Biddy Tarot is a useful second reference.

Upright, I read the Moon as a person whose picture of you is tangled with things that are not you: old wounds, anxieties, a situation they cannot see through. They may be drawn to you and frightened by you, and they may not know which. The picture is real and it is distorted, and the distortion is mostly theirs.

What I would not read into it is that they see you as deceptive, which is the common leap. The Moon can describe someone suspicious of you. More often it describes someone who cannot see you through their own fog.

What the card does not tell you

The card does not confirm the person distrusts you, that their picture is negative, or that the confusion is permanent. No card lets a reader see inside another person's head. What a card can do is describe the kind of image that fits the person's behaviour toward you, and give you something to check against how they actually treat you.

The Moon reversed as how someone sees you

Reversed, the Moon as how someone sees you means the fog clearing or thickening: the person starting to see you as you are, which can lead toward you or away, or the fear taking over entirely and their picture of you becoming something you would not recognise.

In your own question, ask whether the person has become clearer with you lately, for better or worse, or more confusing. A reversed card here is a prompt to notice whether the picture the person holds has gone sour or gone wrong, not a verdict on you.

The Moon as how an ex sees you

Asked how an ex sees you, the Moon suggests their picture of you is unresolved and tangled with how it ended. That is not a picture that pulls someone back on its own. It is a sign the story is not finished in their head, which can keep them away as easily as draw them in. My guide to asking a psychic whether an ex will come back explains what a reading can and cannot say about that question.

The Moon as how a new person sees you

For someone new, this card asks for patience and honesty. They cannot see you clearly yet, possibly because of what they bring from before. Pressing to be seen thickens the fog. Being clear yourself thins it.

How to check the picture against reality

Look for mixed signals that are not cruel: warmth then distance, interest then silence, a person arguing with themselves about you. A Moon picture looks like confusion rather than coldness. If it looks like suspicion, that is the Seven of Swords, not this.

What to record before drawing again

Keep three short notes: the question you asked, the specific mixed signals you have seen, and how long you are willing to be a shape in someone's dark. The third note protects you.

For comparison, the High Priestess as how someone sees you and the Star as how someone sees you describe different pictures. The the Moon card meaning page covers the card in full, and the Moon as a person covers the card when it describes a temperament rather than an image.
