The Star as Intentions: To Be Open With You, and to Hope

The Star as intentions is a plan made with an unguarded heart. Here is what I would read in it, upright and reversed, and why it is slower than desire.

If you want the short answer, I would read the Star as intentions that are hopeful, honest and gentle. In an intentions position the card suggests the person means to be open with you: to trust, to show themselves, to let something good begin after a period of hurt. The intention is sincere and unhurried. Stars are quiet, and so is this plan.

This is the figure kneeling at the pool, pouring water with nothing hidden. They intend to be seen. They intend to take their time about it.

The Star upright as intentions

Tina Gong's the Star guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with hope, renewal, faith, inspiration and serenity. When the card lands in a position that asks what someone intends toward you, I read those meanings as the shape of their plan rather than as a promise about what they will do. Feelings and intentions are different questions; the Star as feelings covers the first, and this page covers the second. The Major Arcana overview at Biddy Tarot is a useful second reference.

Upright, I read the Star as a person who intends to be real with you: honest about where they are, open about what they feel, hopeful about what this could be. They are not planning a campaign. They are planning to trust, which for someone who has been hurt is the larger plan.

What I would not read into it is speed or passion. The Star intends a candle, not a fire. If you are waiting to be pursued, this card is telling you the person intends to be found instead.

What the card does not tell you

The card does not confirm the person is ready for a relationship, that their openness is romantic rather than grateful, or that the healing behind the hope is finished. No card lets a reader see another person's plans. What a card can do is describe the kind of intention that fits the person's behaviour, and give you something to check against what they actually do.

The Star reversed as intentions

Reversed, the Star as intentions describes hope withheld: a person who intends to stay guarded because the last openness cost too much, or who has lost faith in the possibility of anything good with you and does not intend to try. It can also describe someone so discouraged that they intend nothing at all.

In your own question, ask whether the person has been visibly hurt before and gone careful, or whether something in the present makes openness feel unsafe for them. A reversed card as intentions is a prompt to compare what is said with what is done, not a diagnosis of bad faith.

The Star as an ex's intentions

Asked about an ex, the Star as intentions can suggest they have healed enough to intend warmth toward you, and perhaps hope. Healing leads back and leads on with equal ease, and the Star is at home in both stories. Watch what they do with the hope. My guide to asking a psychic whether an ex will come back explains what a reading can and cannot say about that question.

The Star as a new person's intentions

For someone new, this card is tender: they intend to be open with you and are approaching it carefully. Patience is rewarded. Pressure is not. The water in the picture is poured slowly for a reason.

What their intentions look like in action

Look for openness and calm: they share things that matter, they are honest about where they are, they do not play games. A Star intention shows as being trusted. If you find yourself trusted with something tender, the card is upright.

What to record before drawing again

Keep three short notes: the question you asked, what the person has trusted you with, and what pace feels right to you. The third note protects the second.

For comparison, Temperance as intentions and the Sun as intentions describe different intentions. The the Star card meaning page covers the card in full, and the Star as a person and the Star as a yes or no cover the other questions people most often ask of it.
