The Sun as Intentions: To Enjoy You, Openly

The Sun as intentions is a plan with nothing hidden in it. Here is what I would read in it, upright and reversed, and why simple is not the same as shallow.

If you want the short answer, I would read the Sun as intentions that are warm, open and uncomplicated. In an intentions position the card suggests the person means to enjoy you, to be glad in your company, and to show it without strategy. There is no hidden plan because it would not occur to them to have one. The intention is daylight.

This is the child on the horse under the full sun. They intend to be happy with you. That is the plan, and they are not embarrassed about it.

The Sun upright as intentions

Tina Gong's the Sun guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with joy, success, positivity, vitality and clarity. When the card lands in a position that asks what someone intends toward you, I read those meanings as the shape of their plan rather than as a promise about what they will do. Feelings and intentions are different questions; the Sun as feelings covers the first, and this page covers the second. The Major Arcana overview at Biddy Tarot is a useful second reference.

Upright, I read the Sun as a person who intends to be good company, to be honest, to say what they feel because hiding it would not cross their mind. If they intend romance, it will be obvious. If they intend friendship, that will be obvious too. The Sun does not intend ambiguity.

What I would not read into it is depth of plan. The Sun intends the present and the near future. Whether it intends forever is a question for a card with more shadow in it.

What the card does not tell you

The card does not confirm the person intends romance rather than gladness, that their brightness will survive the first serious difficulty, or that they have thought past the next happy week. No card lets a reader see another person's plans. What a card can do is describe the kind of intention that fits the person's behaviour, and give you something to check against what they actually do.

The Sun reversed as intentions

Reversed, the Sun as intentions describes warmth dimmed or performed: a person whose good intentions toward you are clouded by circumstance, or whose cheerfulness is a front over something they intend not to look at. It can also describe plans that are too optimistic to survive contact with reality.

In your own question, ask whether the person seems subdued in a way that has a visible cause, or whether their brightness feels like a wall rather than a window. A reversed card as intentions is a prompt to compare what is said with what is done, not a diagnosis of bad faith.

The Sun as an ex's intentions

Asked about an ex, the Sun as intentions can suggest they remember you with gladness and intend goodwill, no bitterness, perhaps friendship. That is a gift and it is not a signal. People can intend warmth toward you and be perfectly settled in having moved on. My guide to asking a psychic whether an ex will come back explains what a reading can and cannot say about that question.

The Sun as a new person's intentions

For someone new, this card is a cheerful sign: they intend to enjoy you and show it. The question is whether the enjoyment deepens into a plan, which depends on time rather than on the card. Let it be light while it is light.

What their intentions look like in action

Look for visible pleasure: they light up, they laugh easily with you, they are not guarded. A Sun intention is hard to miss. If you are having to search for it, the card may be describing your hope rather than their plan.

What to record before drawing again

Keep three short notes: the question you asked, the plain evidence that the person enjoys your company, and whether you are asking the card to turn gladness into something it has not said.

For comparison, the Star as intentions and the Fool as intentions describe different intentions. The the Sun card meaning page covers the card in full, and the Sun as a person and the Sun as a yes or no cover the other questions people most often ask of it.
