The Three of Pentacles as Feelings: Respectful, Collaborative and Building Slowly
The Three of Pentacles is the mason working with the two who hold the plans. Here is what I would read when it appears as someone's feelings, and why respect is the first layer.
If you want the short answer, I would read the Three of Pentacles as feelings that are respectful and constructive. In a feelings position the card suggests the person values you, sees you as someone to work alongside, and is interested in building something with you in stages. It does not tell you the feeling is romantic. Respect is a foundation, and foundations are not the house.
This is a quietly good card about feelings and an unglamorous one. The person takes you seriously. What they are building is for the next cards to say.
The Three of Pentacles upright as feelings
Tina Gong's the Three of Pentacles guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with teamwork, collaboration, skill recognised and building in stages. When the card lands in a position that asks how someone feels about you, I read those meanings as the shape of the feeling rather than as a verdict on the person.
Upright, I read the Three of Pentacles as a person who admires how you do things, who wants to cooperate with you rather than pursue you, and who approaches whatever is between you as something to be built well. There is warmth and there is professionalism, and the professionalism can be mistaken for distance.
What I would not read into it is passion. The Three of Pentacles does not sweep. It shows up with tools and asks what needs doing. For some people that is love exactly. For others it is a colleague.
What the card does not tell you
The card does not confirm attraction as opposed to regard, that the person's plans for what you are building match yours, or that they want to build anything beyond what is already there. No card lets a reader check a real person's private feelings. What a card can do is give you an honest picture of the feeling you are hoping for or fearing, and a prompt to compare it with how the person actually behaves.
The Three of Pentacles reversed as feelings
Reversed, the Three of Pentacles is often read as poor cooperation, lack of recognition, or work without care. As feelings, I read the reversal as a person who does not value what you bring, or who wants to build with you and cannot agree on the plan, or as a feeling that has become all effort and no warmth.
In your own question, ask which fits. Does the person seem to dismiss what you contribute? Or do you both want something and keep disagreeing about how to make it? A reversed card is a prompt to notice which of those is true from what you can see, not a diagnosis of the other person.
The Three of Pentacles as an ex's feelings
Asked about an ex, the Three of Pentacles can suggest that they still respect you and would work well with you, as co-parents, colleagues, friends. That is a good outcome and a settled one. Occasionally it describes an ex who wants to rebuild properly, and that would show up as a plan, not as a feeling. My guide to asking a psychic whether an ex will come back explains what a reading can and cannot say about that question.
The Three of Pentacles as a new person's feelings
For someone new, this card describes serious, respectful interest from someone who wants to build rather than rush. Match the pace and bring something to the work. The Three of Pentacles falls for people it admires, and admiration is earned slowly.
What to watch for in their behaviour
Look for collaboration and respect: they ask your opinion, they value your skills, they make plans with you rather than for you. A Three of Pentacles feeling looks like being taken seriously. Whether it is also romantic is answered by whether the building ever includes the heart.
What to record before drawing again
Keep three short notes: the question you asked, what the person has shown they respect about you, and whether there is any warmth alongside the respect. The third note is the one to watch. Another draw will mostly reflect the same bench and the same plans.
For comparison, the Eight of Pentacles as feelings and the Knight of Pentacles as feelings describe different feelings.
