The Two of Pentacles as Intentions: To Fit You In, Somehow

The Two of Pentacles as intentions is a plan made while juggling. Here is what I would read in it, upright and reversed, and why you may be one of the coins.

If you want the short answer, I would read the Two of Pentacles as intentions that are real and divided. In an intentions position the card suggests the person means to keep you in their life and to keep everything else too: work, another obligation, another person, their own stability. The intention is to juggle. Nothing has been chosen, and the person is skilled enough at juggling that the choosing can be put off for a long time.

This is the dancer with two coins in a loop. They intend to keep both moving. They have not intended to catch either.

The Two of Pentacles upright as intentions

Tina Gong's the Two of Pentacles guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with balance, adaptability, juggling priorities and managing change. When the card lands in a position that asks what someone intends toward you, I read those meanings as the shape of their plan rather than as a promise about what they will do. Feelings and intentions are different questions; the Two of Pentacles as feelings covers the first, and this page covers the second. The general card meanings at Biddy Tarot are a useful second reference.

Upright, I read the Two of Pentacles as a person who intends to fit you in: to be warm when present, to make time where time can be found, to keep the connection alive without rearranging their life for it. The intention is sincere. It competes for time, and time is where intentions either become plans or starve.

What I would not read into it is a decision in your favour. The juggler keeps both coins moving. The card is honest that nothing has been chosen, and that the choosing is theirs.

What the card does not tell you

The card does not confirm what the other coin is, that the person will ever set it down, or that you are the one they would keep. No card lets a reader see another person's plans. What a card can do is describe the kind of intention that fits the person's behaviour, and give you something to check against what they actually do.

The Two of Pentacles reversed as intentions

Reversed, the Two of Pentacles as intentions describes a coin dropped: a person who has let one thing fall, which may be you or the other thing, or someone so overwhelmed that they cannot intend anything steadily. It can also describe a plan to add you to an already impossible load.

In your own question, ask whether the person has recently let something go and become more present with you, or whether they have dropped you, quietly, under the weight of everything else. A reversed card as intentions is a prompt to compare what is said with what is done, not a diagnosis of bad faith.

The Two of Pentacles as an ex's intentions

Asked about an ex, the Two of Pentacles as intentions can suggest they intend to keep you in motion alongside their new life, neither choosing you nor releasing you. That is not a plan to return. People juggle an intention about an ex for years without it ever landing. My guide to asking a psychic whether an ex will come back explains what a reading can and cannot say about that question.

The Two of Pentacles as a new person's intentions

For someone new, this card describes someone who intends you and has a full, complicated life. Whether there is room for you is a practical question before it is an emotional one. Watch whether they make time, because time is the only coin that counts here.

What their intentions look like in action

Look for warmth in fragments: good when present, often absent, apologetic about the gaps. A Two of Pentacles intention is visible as fitting you in. Whether it becomes more is visible as rearranging, and rearranging is a choice.

What to record before drawing again

Keep three short notes: the question you asked, what the person seems to be balancing you against, and whether you can see any sign of them choosing. The third note is the honest one.

For comparison, the Ten of Wands as intentions and the Seven of Cups as intentions describe different intentions. The the Two of Pentacles card meaning page covers the card in full, and the Two of Pentacles as timing and the Two of Pentacles as a yes or no cover the other questions people most often ask of it.
