The Eight of Cups as an Outcome: Walking Away

Written by Chaya the Medium.

The Eight of Cups as an outcome is a departure. Here is what it says about where things are heading.

The Eight of Cups as an outcome is walking away. The situation is heading toward leaving something that no longer fulfils you, in search of something deeper.

What the Eight of Cups means as an outcome upright

Tina Gong's the Eight of Cups guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with disappointment, abandonment, withdrawal and escapism. In the outcome position I read those meanings as the likely direction of the situation if things carry on as they are now. An outcome card is not a fixed sentence. It shows where the current road leads, and roads can be changed. The Minor Arcana overview at Biddy Tarot is a useful second reference.

Upright, the Eight of Cups shows the outcome as a choice to move on. It may be sad, but it is honest. You leave because you know there is more for you.

The Eight of Cups reversed as an outcome

Reversed, the Eight of Cups as an outcome points to staying too long or drifting without direction. Decide whether you are really staying or really going.

The Eight of Cups as a love outcome

As a love outcome, the Eight of Cups can mean leaving a relationship or emotionally withdrawing from it. It is a search for something more true.

The Eight of Cups as an outcome for work and money

For work and money, the Eight of Cups as an outcome points to leaving a role that has stopped meaning anything. A card can describe a direction; for decisions with legal, medical or financial weight, take advice from someone qualified as well.

What helps this outcome along

Courage helps this outcome. Go toward what you are looking for.

For comparison, the Hermit as an outcome and the Nine of Cups as an outcome point somewhere different. The the Eight of Cups card meaning page covers the card in full, and the Eight of Cups as advice, the Eight of Cups as feelings and the Eight of Cups as a yes or no cover the other questions people most often ask of it.
