The Knight of Wands Yes or No: Yes, Quickly, and Check It Lasts
The Knight of Wands is a yes at full gallop. Here is how I read it for yes or no questions, upright and reversed, and why the reversal is a no about recklessness.
If you want the short answer, the Knight of Wands is a yes. In a yes or no draw the upright card says the thing you are asking about will happen fast and with energy, and that bold action is favoured. It is an exciting yes, and it is a yes that may not stay.
This is a card of yes as a rearing horse. The rider is leaning forward. Nobody has decided where they are going.
Is the Knight of Wands a yes or a no?
Upright, I read the Knight of Wands as a yes. Reversed, I read it as a no. My free yes or no tarot draw uses the Major Arcana only, so if you want a quick draw, use that; these Minor Arcana values are the ones I apply when a full deck is in play.
Tina Gong's the Knight of Wands guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with energy, passion, adventure, impulsiveness and a lust for life. Brigit Esselmont's yes or no tarot overview at Biddy Tarot notes that readers assign yes and no values differently, which is true, and it is why I state mine rather than pretend there is one correct table.
Why the upright card reads this way
I read the Knight of Wands as yes because the card is about action without hesitation: the charging horse, the raised wand, the pyramids in the distance that the Knight is already past. When a question is about whether to act boldly, whether something will move, whether the energy is there, the Knight says yes.
The yes is fast and may be brief. The Knight of Wands arrives like weather. The card says the thing happens; it does not promise it is still there next month.
The Knight of Wands reversed as yes or no
Reversed, I read the Knight of Wands as a no. The reversal describes recklessness, frustration, passion with no direction, or a fire that burns out before it builds anything.
If you drew the Knight of Wands reversed, ask whether the action you are asking about has a destination or only a speed. The no is to galloping nowhere.
The Knight of Wands yes or no in a love question
In a love question, the Knight of Wands is a yes to passion, to a whirlwind beginning, to someone sweeping in. It is a strong card for attraction and a weak one for staying power. Reversed, it is a no to the person who arrives fast and leaves faster, and to acting on impulse where patience was needed.
The Knight of Wands yes or no for work and money
For work and money, the Knight of Wands is a yes to bold moves, travel, relocation and the fast-moving opportunity. Reversed, it is a no to the rash decision, the impulsive spend and the project started in a rush with no plan.
When a yes or no draw is the wrong tool
The Knight of Wands answers questions about bold action. It is a poor card for anything that needs steadiness, which it answers with a charge. A single card answers a single, well-formed question. If the question is really three questions, or is about another person's choices, a yes or no draw will give you a confident answer to the wrong thing. My guide to a one question psychic reading explains how I handle questions that need more than one card.
What to record before drawing again
Keep three short notes: the exact question you asked, how fast the thing is moving, and whether you have checked it has somewhere to go. The third note is the whole difference between upright and reversed.
For comparison, the Eight of Wands yes or no and the Knight of Cups yes or no answer differently. The the Knight of Wands card meaning page covers the card in full, and the Knight of Wands as timing and the Knight of Wands as feelings cover the two other questions people most often ask of it.
