The Nine of Pentacles as Advice: Enjoy Your Independence

Written by Chaya the Medium.

The Nine of Pentacles as advice asks you to stand in your own vineyard. Here is how, and what the reversal says.

If you want the short answer, the Nine of Pentacles as advice says: enjoy your independence. You have built something; appreciate it and choose from strength.

What the Nine of Pentacles advises upright

Tina Gong's the Nine of Pentacles guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with independence, luxury, self-sufficiency and fruits of labour. In an advice position I read those meanings as an instruction: the attitude or action the card is asking of you, rather than a description of what will happen. The Minor Arcana overview at Biddy Tarot is a useful second reference.

Upright, the Nine of Pentacles advises self-reliance and appreciation: treat yourself, enjoy your own company, make choices from security rather than need.

What the Nine of Pentacles is not asking you to do

The Nine is not asking you to shut everyone out.

The Nine of Pentacles reversed as advice

Reversed, the Nine of Pentacles as advice says check whether your independence has become isolation or overspending. A reversed card in an advice position is usually pointing at the habit that is getting in your way, not at a punishment.

The Nine of Pentacles as advice in love

In love, the Nine of Pentacles advises entering a relationship as a whole person.

The Nine of Pentacles as advice for work and money

For work and money, it advises enjoying the rewards and protecting your financial independence. Advice from a card is reflection. For decisions with legal, medical or financial weight, take it to someone qualified as well.

One step to take this week

Do one thing this week purely for your own enjoyment, paid for by your own work.

For comparison, the Queen of Pentacles as advice and the Nine of Cups as advice ask different things of you. The the Nine of Pentacles card meaning page covers the card in full, and the Nine of Pentacles as a yes or no, the Nine of Pentacles as feelings and the Nine of Pentacles as timing cover the other questions people most often ask of it.
