The Page of Swords Yes or No: Unclear, Check the Facts First

The Page of Swords brings information before it brings an answer. Here is how I read it for yes or no questions, upright and reversed, and why the reversal is a no about gossip.

If you want the short answer, the Page of Swords is unclear. In a yes or no draw the upright card says new information is coming that will change the question, and that acting before it arrives would be acting on half the picture. It is a card of find out first, and it means it.

This is a card of unclear as a young figure in the wind with a raised blade, looking over one shoulder. Something has caught their attention. They have not worked out what it means.

Is the Page of Swords a yes or a no?

Upright, I read the Page of Swords as unclear, neither a clean yes nor a clean no. Reversed, I read it as a no. My free yes or no tarot draw uses the Major Arcana only, so if you want a quick draw, use that; these Minor Arcana values are the ones I apply when a full deck is in play.

Tina Gong's the Page of Swords guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with curiosity, new ideas, vigilance and mental energy. Brigit Esselmont's yes or no tarot overview at Biddy Tarot notes that readers assign yes and no values differently, which is true, and it is why I state mine rather than pretend there is one correct table.

Why the upright card reads this way

I read the Page of Swords as unclear because the card is about information arriving rather than conclusions reached: the alert stance, the moving clouds, the sword held up to see by. When a question gets this card, the answer is that the facts are not all in, and that the honest move is to ask more questions rather than draw more cards.

The useful reading is that the answer is available and has to be gathered. A direct question to the right person usually turns the Page of Swords into a different card.

The Page of Swords reversed as yes or no

Reversed, I read the Page of Swords as a no. The reversal describes gossip, hasty words, information that misleads, or scattered thinking that cannot settle on a decision. Acting on what you have heard, rather than what you have confirmed, is a no.

If you drew the Page of Swords reversed, ask whether you are deciding on rumour or on fact. The no is to the rumour, and it stands until you have checked.

The Page of Swords yes or no in a love question

In a love question, the Page of Swords upright says there is something to find out about the person or the situation before the question can be answered, and that watching will not find it; asking will. Reversed, it is a no to acting on what friends have said, on a read of their messages, on anything you have not heard from them directly.

The Page of Swords yes or no for work and money

For work and money, the Page of Swords is unclear until the information is in: the contract read, the figures checked, the rumour confirmed or killed. Reversed, it is a no to the decision made on office talk, and a warning about hasty emails.

When a yes or no draw is the wrong tool

The Page of Swords is the card that says the question has not been researched enough. Drawing again does not research it. A single card answers a single, well-formed question. If the question is really three questions, or is about another person's choices, a yes or no draw will give you a confident answer to the wrong thing. My guide to a one question psychic reading explains how I handle questions that need more than one card.

What to record before drawing again

Keep three short notes: the exact question you asked, what you know for certain versus what you have heard, and the one person who could confirm the difference. Ask them before you draw again.

For comparison, the Page of Wands yes or no and the High Priestess yes or no answer differently. The the Page of Swords card meaning page covers the card in full, and the Page of Swords as timing and the Page of Swords as feelings cover the two other questions people most often ask of it.
