The Six of Pentacles as Intentions: To Give to You, and Possibly to Keep Score

The Six of Pentacles as intentions is a plan to give with scales in the other hand. Here is what I would read in it, upright and reversed.

If you want the short answer, I would read the Six of Pentacles as intentions that are generous and slightly uneven. In an intentions position the card suggests the person means to help you, support you, give to you, and that the giving has a height difference in it: they intend to be the one who provides. The intention is kind. Whether it intends partnership or patronage is the thing to watch.

This is the figure giving coins to the kneeling pair while holding scales. They intend to give. They intend to measure it.

The Six of Pentacles upright as intentions

Tina Gong's the Six of Pentacles guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with generosity, charity, giving and receiving and balance. When the card lands in a position that asks what someone intends toward you, I read those meanings as the shape of their plan rather than as a promise about what they will do. Feelings and intentions are different questions; the Six of Pentacles as feelings covers the first, and this page covers the second. The general card meanings at Biddy Tarot are a useful second reference.

Upright, I read the Six of Pentacles as a person who intends to be good to you in a providing way: to help, to be there when you need something, to be generous with time and resources. The intention is real and the person enjoys being the one who gives. Whether they intend to receive from you as well is the question the scales raise.

What I would not read into it is equality by default. The Six of Pentacles can intend the start of a loving partnership or the shape of a kindly imbalance that never becomes one. Watch whether the person lets you give back.

What the card does not tell you

The card does not confirm the person intends attraction rather than benevolence, that they want to receive as well as give, or that the balance will even out. No card lets a reader see another person's plans. What a card can do is describe the kind of intention that fits the person's behaviour, and give you something to check against what they actually do.

The Six of Pentacles reversed as intentions

Reversed, the Six of Pentacles as intentions describes giving with strings: a plan to help in a way that creates debt, support offered with an expectation not stated, or a person who intends generosity as a form of control. It can also describe someone who intends to give and cannot accept anything in return.

In your own question, ask whether the person's kindness seems to come with a ledger, or whether they give freely and refuse to let you give anything back. A reversed card as intentions is a prompt to compare what is said with what is done, not a diagnosis of bad faith.

The Six of Pentacles as an ex's intentions

Asked about an ex, the Six of Pentacles as intentions can suggest they still intend kindness toward you and would help if asked. That is a generous residue and it is not longing. Occasionally it describes an ex who intends to give you something to make amends, which is about their conscience more than about you. My guide to asking a psychic whether an ex will come back explains what a reading can and cannot say about that question.

The Six of Pentacles as a new person's intentions

For someone new, this card describes a warm, giving intention from someone who shows interest through help and support. Accept it, then offer something back and see whether they let you. Partnership starts when the scales are allowed to move.

What their intentions look like in action

Look for generosity and for whether it flows both ways: they help, they provide, and do they also receive? A Six of Pentacles intention is visible in what the person gives. Its health is visible in what they let you give.

What to record before drawing again

Keep three short notes: the question you asked, what the person has given you, and whether they have accepted anything from you. The third note tells you whether this is a partnership or a kindness.

For comparison, the Five of Pentacles as intentions and the Queen of Pentacles as intentions describe different intentions. The the Six of Pentacles card meaning page covers the card in full, and the Six of Pentacles as timing and the Six of Pentacles as a yes or no cover the other questions people most often ask of it.
