The Six of Pentacles Yes or No: Yes, If the Giving Is Fair
The Six of Pentacles is a yes with scales in it. Here is how I read it for yes or no questions, upright and reversed, and why the reversal is a no about strings attached.
If you want the short answer, the Six of Pentacles is a yes. In a yes or no draw the upright card says help will be given or received, generosity is available and the exchange will be fair. It is a yes about support, and it is a yes that works in both directions.
This is a card of yes as coins given with scales held. The giving is real. The scales are the condition.
Is the Six of Pentacles a yes or a no?
Upright, I read the Six of Pentacles as a yes. Reversed, I read it as a no. My free yes or no tarot draw uses the Major Arcana only, so if you want a quick draw, use that; these Minor Arcana values are the ones I apply when a full deck is in play.
Tina Gong's the Six of Pentacles guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with generosity, charity, giving and receiving and balance. Brigit Esselmont's yes or no tarot overview at Biddy Tarot notes that readers assign yes and no values differently, which is true, and it is why I state mine rather than pretend there is one correct table.
Why the upright card reads this way
I read the Six of Pentacles as yes because the card is about resources flowing where they are needed: the merchant with the scales, the coins, the kneeling figures receiving. When a question is about whether help will come, whether a request will be granted, whether generosity is wise, the Six says yes.
The yes includes a question about balance. The Six of Pentacles is a yes to giving and receiving as long as the scales stay level, and it asks you to notice whether you are always on the same side of them.
The Six of Pentacles reversed as yes or no
Reversed, I read the Six of Pentacles as a no. The reversal describes debt, strings attached, giving that is really control, or help that comes at a price not stated.
If you drew the Six of Pentacles reversed, ask what the help would cost and whether the cost has been said out loud. The no is to accepting a gift that is actually a loan.
The Six of Pentacles yes or no in a love question
In a love question, the Six of Pentacles is a yes to a relationship with generosity and support in it, and a yes to asking for or offering help. It is a weaker card for passion and a stronger one for kindness. Reversed, it is a no to a relationship where giving keeps score, or where one of you is always kneeling.
The Six of Pentacles yes or no for work and money
For work and money, the Six of Pentacles is a yes to a loan granted, a raise given, a grant received, a charitable or supportive arrangement. It is a good card for "will I get help". Reversed, it is a no to the loan with hidden terms and the favour that will be called in.
When a yes or no draw is the wrong tool
The Six of Pentacles answers questions about help and exchange. It is a poor card for questions about independence, which it answers by describing someone giving to someone else. A single card answers a single, well-formed question. If the question is really three questions, or is about another person's choices, a yes or no draw will give you a confident answer to the wrong thing. My guide to a one question psychic reading explains how I handle questions that need more than one card.
What to record before drawing again
Keep three short notes: the exact question you asked, what is being given and by whom, and what is expected in return, stated or not. The third note is the reversal.
For comparison, the Five of Pentacles yes or no and the King of Pentacles yes or no answer differently. The the Six of Pentacles card meaning page covers the card in full, and the Six of Pentacles as timing and the Six of Pentacles as feelings cover the two other questions people most often ask of it.
