The Lovers as How Someone Sees You: A Choice They Take Seriously
The Lovers as how someone sees you means you are the other figure under the angel. Here is what the picture includes, upright and reversed, and what it has not decided.
If you want the short answer, the Lovers as how someone sees you means they see you as significant: as a real choice, someone who fits their values as well as their wanting, someone they have to decide about rather than drift past. It is one of the most serious pictures in the deck. The choice inside it has not been made, and the person is standing in it.
This is you as the other figure in the garden. They see you under the angel. They have not stepped toward you yet.
The Lovers upright as how someone sees you
Tina Gong's the Lovers guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with love, harmony, relationships, values and choices. When the card lands in a position that asks how someone sees you, I read those meanings as the image the person holds of you, which is not the same as who you are and not the same as what they feel. the Lovers as feelings covers what they feel; the Lovers as intentions covers what they plan. This page covers the picture. The general card meanings at Biddy Tarot are a useful second reference.
Upright, I read the Lovers as a person who sees you as someone who matters: attractive, yes, and also aligned, right, worth weighing. They take you seriously enough to be unsure. In the upright card the seriousness is a compliment, and the unsureness is what seriousness looks like from outside.
What I would not read into it is a decision in your favour. The Lovers describes you as the choice, not as the chosen. The card is honest that the person is at the crossroads.
What the card does not tell you
The card does not confirm the person will choose you, that they are free to, or that the other option they weigh is less attractive to them. No card lets a reader see inside another person's head. What a card can do is describe the kind of image that fits the person's behaviour toward you, and give you something to check against how they actually treat you.
The Lovers reversed as how someone sees you
Reversed, the Lovers as how someone sees you means the picture has conflict in it: they see you as something they want and cannot have, or as the wrong choice their heart keeps making, or as one of two people they will not choose between. It can also mean they have chosen against you and not said so.
In your own question, ask whether the person seems torn in a way they will not explain, or whether their feelings and their life point in different directions, with you on one side. A reversed card here is a prompt to notice whether the picture the person holds has gone sour or gone wrong, not a verdict on you.
The Lovers as how an ex sees you
Asked how an ex sees you, the Lovers suggests you are still a question for them: someone they weigh against the reasons it ended. That weighing can go either way. The card cannot tell you which side the scale tips, and anyone who says it can is guessing. My guide to asking a psychic whether an ex will come back explains what a reading can and cannot say about that question.
The Lovers as how a new person sees you
For someone new, this card means they see you as significant rather than casual, and they need time to decide. People who see the Lovers in someone decide carefully, and the decision tends to hold.
How to check the picture against reality
Look for seriousness: real questions, talk about what matters to them, visible weighing rather than drifting. A Lovers picture looks like someone taking you seriously enough to be unsure. Flippancy is a different card.
What to record before drawing again
Keep three short notes: the question you asked, what the person seems to be choosing between, and what you would need from them to stay in the choice. The third note is yours to decide.
For comparison, the Two of Cups as how someone sees you and the Devil as feelings describe different pictures. The the Lovers card meaning page covers the card in full, and the Lovers as a yes or no and the Lovers as timing cover the other questions people most often ask of it.
