The Star as Advice: Have Hope and Keep Going

The Star as advice asks you to hope again. Here is how to practise it, and what the reversal says about discouragement.

If you want the short answer, the Star as advice says: hope. Trust that recovery is possible, keep faith with what matters to you, and take one small renewing step at a time.

What the Star advises upright

Tina Gong's the Star guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with hope, renewal, faith, inspiration and serenity. In an advice position I read those meanings as an instruction: the attitude or action the card is asking of you, rather than a description of what will happen. The Major Arcana overview at Biddy Tarot is a useful second reference.

Upright, the Star advises healing and openness: rest, be honest about where you are, let yourself want good things again.

What the Star is not asking you to do

The Star is not asking you to pretend you are fine. Hope sits alongside honesty.

The Star reversed as advice

Reversed, the Star as advice says discouragement is distorting the picture. The situation may be less hopeless than tonight makes it feel. A reversed card in an advice position is usually pointing at the habit that is getting in your way, not at a punishment.

The Star as advice in love

In love, the Star advises openness after hurt, and patience with healing.

The Star as advice for work and money

For work and money, it advises a hopeful new direction after a setback. Advice from a card is reflection. For decisions with legal, medical or financial weight, take it to someone qualified as well.

One step to take this week

Write down one thing that has improved in the last month, however small. Do one thing this week that feeds it.

For comparison, the Sun as advice and the Tower as advice ask different things of you. The the Star card meaning page covers the card in full, and the Star as a yes or no, the Star as feelings and the Star as timing cover the other questions people most often ask of it.
