The Three of Wands as Advice: Be Patient and Prepare

Written by Chaya the Medium.

The Three of Wands as advice asks for patience after effort. Here is how to use the wait.

If you want the short answer, the Three of Wands as advice says: be patient and prepare. You have done your part; get ready for the return and think about what comes next.

What the Three of Wands advises upright

Tina Gong's the Three of Wands guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with expansion, foresight, overseas opportunities and long-range plans. In an advice position I read those meanings as an instruction: the attitude or action the card is asking of you, rather than a description of what will happen. The Minor Arcana overview at Biddy Tarot is a useful second reference.

Upright, the Three of Wands advises foresight: plan the next stage, widen your horizon, prepare to receive.

What the Three of Wands is not asking you to do

The Three is not asking you to keep sending ships out of nerves.

The Three of Wands reversed as advice

Reversed, the Three of Wands as advice says check for delays or for something you thought you sent and did not. A reversed card in an advice position is usually pointing at the habit that is getting in your way, not at a punishment.

The Three of Wands as advice in love

In love, the Three of Wands advises patience after reaching out.

The Three of Wands as advice for work and money

For work and money, it advises preparing for results and planning expansion. Advice from a card is reflection. For decisions with legal, medical or financial weight, take it to someone qualified as well.

One step to take this week

Instead of chasing a reply this week, prepare for what you will do when it comes.

For comparison, the Two of Wands as advice and the Eight of Wands as advice ask different things of you. The the Three of Wands card meaning page covers the card in full, and the Three of Wands as a yes or no, the Three of Wands as feelings and the Three of Wands as timing cover the other questions people most often ask of it.
