Death as Advice: Let It End
Death as advice asks you to release what is finished. Here is what that means in practice, and what the reversal is warning about.
If you want the short answer, Death as advice says: let it end. Something has run its course, and holding on is costing you. Close the chapter so the next can open.
What Death advises upright
Tina Gong's Death guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with endings, transformation, transition and letting go. In an advice position I read those meanings as an instruction: the attitude or action the card is asking of you, rather than a description of what will happen. The Major Arcana overview at Biddy Tarot is a useful second reference.
Upright, Death advises release: end the habit, the arrangement or the hope that is no longer alive. Make the clean break.
What Death is not asking you to do
Death is not advice about physical harm, and it is not a call to destroy things that are working. It is about what is already over.
Death reversed as advice
Reversed, Death as advice says you are resisting a necessary change. Notice what you are clinging to. A reversed card in an advice position is usually pointing at the habit that is getting in your way, not at a punishment.
Death as advice in love
In love, Death advises letting go of the version of the relationship that has ended, whether that means changing it or leaving it.
Death as advice for work and money
For work and money, it advises closing what is not working and making room for something new. Advice from a card is reflection. For decisions with legal, medical or financial weight, take it to someone qualified as well.
One step to take this week
Name one thing you know is finished. Take one concrete step to end it this week.
For comparison, the Tower as advice and the World as advice ask different things of you. The Death card meaning page covers the card in full, and Death as a yes or no, Death as feelings and Death as timing cover the other questions people most often ask of it. For a personal interpretation, my guide to an online psychic reading explains how readings work, and the three-card tarot listing and customer reviews are worth reading before deciding whether to order.
