Death as How Someone Sees You: The End of One Version of You
Death as how someone sees you means the old picture is over. Here is what the card includes, upright and reversed, and why it is not the rejection it looks like.
If you want the short answer, Death as how someone sees you means the way they saw you before is over: the infatuation has passed, or the illusion, or the version of you they knew, and what replaces it has not fully formed. It is not a picture of you as dead to them. It is a picture of you transformed in their eyes, and transformation is still seeing.
This is you as the figure Death has ridden past. The old picture fell. The sun is rising between the towers, and they have not looked at it yet.
Death upright as how someone sees you
Tina Gong's Death guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with endings, transformation, transition and letting go. When the card lands in a position that asks how someone sees you, I read those meanings as the image the person holds of you, which is not the same as who you are and not the same as what they feel. Death as feelings covers what they feel; Death as intentions covers what they plan. This page covers the picture. The Major Arcana overview at Biddy Tarot is a useful second reference.
Upright, I read Death as a person whose picture of you has changed for good: they see you as different from who they thought, or they see the relationship as finished in its old form, or they see you as someone they have let go of and can now see clearly. The change is complete. What they see now is real and it is not what they saw before.
What I would not read into it is indifference. Death transforms; it does not erase. The person still sees you. The question is what they see, and the card says it is new.
What the card does not tell you
The card does not confirm the person has stopped caring, that the change is against you, or that the new picture is worse than the old one. No card lets a reader see inside another person's head. What a card can do is describe the kind of image that fits the person's behaviour toward you, and give you something to check against how they actually treat you.
Death reversed as how someone sees you
Reversed, Death as how someone sees you means the picture refuses to change: they see a version of you that has already ended, cling to it, cannot let you be who you are now. Or they refuse to see that something between you is over and keep the old picture on the wall.
In your own question, ask whether the person is holding on to how they saw you past the point where it is true, or whether something between you is clearly over that neither of you has said out loud. A reversed card here is a prompt to notice whether the picture the person holds has gone sour or gone wrong, not a verdict on you.
Death as how an ex sees you
Asked how an ex sees you, Death suggests their old picture of you has closed and they are not going back to it. That is hard to receive and it is the card that most reliably sets people free. If a new picture forms, it forms as something different, not as a resumption. My guide to asking a psychic whether an ex will come back explains what a reading can and cannot say about that question.
Death as how a new person sees you
For someone new, this card often means the person is changing, has recently ended something, and sees you as part of becoming someone different. The picture is still forming. Give the sun time to rise.
How to check the picture against reality
Look for change already visible: they treat you differently from a month ago, they speak of before and after, they have let something go. A Death picture shows as a person seeing you with new eyes. Whether the new eyes are warm is the next thing to learn.
What to record before drawing again
Keep three short notes: the question you asked, what seems to have ended in how the person sees you, and what you can see beginning. The third note is the sun between the towers.
For comparison, the Tower as how someone sees you and the World as how someone sees you describe different pictures. The Death card meaning page covers the card in full, and Death as a person covers the card when it describes a temperament rather than an image.
