Justice as Advice: Be Honest and Fair

Written by Chaya the Medium.

Justice as advice asks you to look at the whole truth, including your part. Here is how to apply it, and what the reversal warns against.

If you want the short answer, Justice as advice says: be honest and fair. Look at the facts plainly, own your part, and make the decision that is right rather than the one that is easy.

What Justice advises upright

Tina Gong's Justice guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with fairness, truth, cause and effect and law. In an advice position I read those meanings as an instruction: the attitude or action the card is asking of you, rather than a description of what will happen. The Major Arcana overview at Biddy Tarot is a useful second reference.

Upright, Justice advises accountability: tell the truth, keep agreements, weigh both sides, and accept the consequences of your choices.

What Justice is not asking you to do

Justice is not asking you to be harsh with yourself or others. Fairness includes fairness to you.

Justice reversed as advice

Reversed, Justice as advice says stop avoiding accountability, yours or someone else's. Something unequal needs addressing. A reversed card in an advice position is usually pointing at the habit that is getting in your way, not at a punishment.

Justice as advice in love

In love, Justice advises honesty and balance: what is each of you giving?

Justice as advice for work and money

For work and money, it advises careful attention to contracts, agreements and what is fair. Advice from a card is reflection. For decisions with legal, medical or financial weight, take it to someone qualified as well.

One step to take this week

Write the facts of the situation without adjectives. Then write your own part in it. Act on what you see.

For comparison, the Emperor as advice and Judgement as advice ask different things of you. The Justice card meaning page covers the card in full, and Justice as a yes or no, Justice as feelings and Justice as timing cover the other questions people most often ask of it.
