The Knight of Swords as Advice: Act Decisively, and Listen

Written by Chaya the Medium.

The Knight of Swords as advice asks you to cut through. Here is how, and what the reversal says about aggression.

If you want the short answer, the Knight of Swords as advice says: act decisively. Say what needs saying and move, while keeping your ears open.

What the Knight of Swords advises upright

Tina Gong's the Knight of Swords guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with ambition, drive, directness and fast action. In an advice position I read those meanings as an instruction: the attitude or action the card is asking of you, rather than a description of what will happen. The Minor Arcana overview at Biddy Tarot is a useful second reference.

Upright, the Knight of Swords advises speed and clarity: make the decision, have the conversation, push the project forward.

What the Knight of Swords is not asking you to do

The Knight is not asking you to be cruel or to win at any cost.

The Knight of Swords reversed as advice

Reversed, the Knight of Swords as advice says slow down and soften. Bluntness is turning into harm. A reversed card in an advice position is usually pointing at the habit that is getting in your way, not at a punishment.

The Knight of Swords as advice in love

In love, the Knight of Swords advises honest directness, followed by listening.

The Knight of Swords as advice for work and money

For work and money, it advises decisive action in a competitive situation. Advice from a card is reflection. For decisions with legal, medical or financial weight, take it to someone qualified as well.

One step to take this week

Make one overdue decision this week, and ask one person affected what they think before you act on it.

For comparison, the Knight of Wands as advice and Justice as advice ask different things of you. The the Knight of Swords card meaning page covers the card in full, and the Knight of Swords as a yes or no, the Knight of Swords as feelings and the Knight of Swords as timing cover the other questions people most often ask of it.
