The Knight of Wands as Intentions: To Sweep In, and Possibly Out
The Knight of Wands as intentions is a plan to arrive at full gallop. Here is what I would read in it, upright and reversed, and what to check about the leaving.
If you want the short answer, I would read the Knight of Wands as intentions that are bold, fast and passionate. In an intentions position the card suggests the person means to pursue you with energy: to act, to move, to make something happen quickly. The intention is strong and it is about now. The Knight of Wands does not plan for after, and the after is where this card's intentions tend to thin.
This is the rider on the rearing horse, leaning forward. He intends to get to you. Where he intends to go next, he has not decided.
The Knight of Wands upright as intentions
Tina Gong's the Knight of Wands guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with energy, passion, adventure, impulsiveness and a lust for life. When the card lands in a position that asks what someone intends toward you, I read those meanings as the shape of their plan rather than as a promise about what they will do. Feelings and intentions are different questions; the Knight of Wands as feelings covers the first, and this page covers the second. The Minor Arcana overview at Biddy Tarot is a useful second reference.
Upright, I read the Knight of Wands as a person who intends to act on their attraction: to ask you out, to show up, to make a move, probably soon and probably impressively. They are not planning to wait. They are not planning much at all; they are planning to go.
What I would not read into it is an intention to stay. The Knight of Wands intends the pursuit. Whether he intends the relationship is a question he has not asked himself yet.
What the card does not tell you
The card does not confirm that the person intends anything beyond the chase, that they will still intend it next month, or that they are not pursuing someone else with the same energy. No card lets a reader see another person's plans. What a card can do is describe the kind of intention that fits the person's behaviour, and give you something to check against what they actually do.
The Knight of Wands reversed as intentions
Reversed, the Knight of Wands as intentions describes a plan with no direction: a pursuit that fizzles, a person who intends intensity and cannot sustain it, or someone whose intentions toward you are mostly about the thrill. It can also describe recklessness: an intention to act without any thought for the consequences to you.
In your own question, ask whether the person came on strong and cooled, or whether their intensity has ever landed anywhere. A reversed card as intentions is a prompt to compare what is said with what is done, not a diagnosis of bad faith.
The Knight of Wands as an ex's intentions
Asked about an ex, the Knight of Wands as intentions can suggest they mean to come back fast and hot: a sudden message, a surge, a wish to pick up where it left off. I would read that as an intention to re-ignite, not an intention to do anything differently. Knights of Wands return the way they left. My guide to asking a psychic whether an ex will come back explains what a reading can and cannot say about that question.
The Knight of Wands as a new person's intentions
For someone new, this card describes someone who intends to pursue you quickly and with heat. It is a thrilling start. The person who keeps a Knight of Wands is usually the one who enjoys the pursuit and does not try to turn it into a cage.
What their intentions look like in action
Look for action over talk: they ask rather than hint, they show up, they make plans and chase them. A Knight of Wands intention is visible in motion. If the motion stops, the intention has usually gone with it, and no card will restart it.
What to record before drawing again
Keep three short notes: the question you asked, how fast things have moved, and whether the person has ever slowed down for anyone. The third note is the honest forecast.
For comparison, the Knight of Cups as intentions and the Knight of Swords as intentions describe different intentions. The the Knight of Wands card meaning page covers the card in full, and the Knight of Wands as a person and the Knight of Wands as a yes or no cover the other questions people most often ask of it.
