The King of Wands as Advice: Lead With Vision

Written by Chaya the Medium.

The King of Wands as advice asks you to take charge of the big picture. Here is how, and what the reversal warns against.

If you want the short answer, the King of Wands as advice says: lead with vision. Make the big decision, commit to it, and bring others along.

What the King of Wands advises upright

Tina Gong's the King of Wands guide at Labyrinthos associates the upright card with leadership, vision, bold action and natural authority. In an advice position I read those meanings as an instruction: the attitude or action the card is asking of you, rather than a description of what will happen. The Minor Arcana overview at Biddy Tarot is a useful second reference.

Upright, the King of Wands advises bold leadership: set the direction, take responsibility, act on your vision.

What the King of Wands is not asking you to do

The King is not asking you to stop listening. Vision without input becomes tyranny.

The King of Wands reversed as advice

Reversed, the King of Wands as advice says check whether you are being impulsive or domineering, or avoiding the decision. A reversed card in an advice position is usually pointing at the habit that is getting in your way, not at a punishment.

The King of Wands as advice in love

In love, the King of Wands advises being decisive and generous about what you want.

The King of Wands as advice for work and money

For work and money, it advises strategic leadership and bold commitment. Advice from a card is reflection. For decisions with legal, medical or financial weight, take it to someone qualified as well.

One step to take this week

Write your long-term vision in one sentence, and make one decision this week that serves it.

For comparison, the Queen of Wands as advice and the Emperor as advice ask different things of you. The the King of Wands card meaning page covers the card in full, and the King of Wands as a yes or no, the King of Wands as feelings and the King of Wands as timing cover the other questions people most often ask of it.
